A merchant was in the marketplace one day when he felt terrible cramps. Out of control he let go an enormous fart. People stared at him from all sides and in sheer embarrasment he ran home, packed his bags and swore he would never return. For years he travelled, but always avoided his home town.

Eventually, as an old weary man he returned to his home. He had grown a long beard and his face was aged, so he was confident no one would recognize him. When he arrived in town he went directly to the marketplace. There to his surprise he noticed the stores had changed drastically and new paving put on the streets. He turned timidly to a man beside him and asked him, When did they pave the street? The man replied, That was done four years, five months and three days after that merchant let go the enormous fart in the marketplace."
