The Therapeutic Value of CranioSacral Therapy
We are all familiar with the cardiovascular and respiratory rhythms. Like them, another body rhythm --
the craniosacral system - influences many body functions. An imbalance in this system can adversely
affect the development of the brain and spinal cord, which can result in sensory, motor and
neurological dysfunction.
Cranial Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy
The case histories from craniosacral therapy are extensive. The therapy corrects
lesions in the craniosacral system and generally improves the body's health and resilience.
CranioSacral
There are 27 bones that make up the skull, and they normally move slightly in relation to one another. This motion is critical in circulating the cushioning and nourishing fluid around the brain and spinal cord- the cerebrospinal fluid. New information suggests the cerebrospinal fluid affects sleep, appetite, and sexual behavior.

Like the cardiovascular and respiratory rhythms, another body rhythm -- the craniosacral system -- influences many

which can result in sensory, motor and neurological dysfunction.
CranioSacral Therapy
CranioSacral Therapy is comprehensive
technique, good for almost anything, but difficult
to define. A friend called it "the membrane's
edge" between mind, body and spirit, and that's
where it excels - where mind, body, and spirit
meet. The created by osteopath Dr. John
Upledger, CranioSacral Therapy is composed of
five or six separate pieces, and to explain it we
had best describe each piece in turn.
CranioSacral Therapy
Upledger Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands on technique that seeks the causes of pain and dysfunction and
encourages the body's self-correcting properties.
CranioSacral Therapy - A History
CranioSacral Therapy is the gentle manual technique of light touch to the bones of the head and spinal column in an effort to encourage natural release and relaxation of hypertonic
membranous and musculoskeletal connective tissues.
Craniosacral Therapy - Pathways Magazine
This approach was named in 1977 by John Upledger, D.O., and Ernest Retzlaff, Ph.D., to distinguish it from Sutherland's cranal osteopathy.

Skeptic's Dictionary: craniosacral therapy
Craniosacral therapy (a.k.a. craniopathy and cranial osteopathy) is a
holistic therapy that involves the manipulation of the skull bones (the
cranium) and the sacrum to relieve pain and a variety of other ailments,
including cancer. (The sacrum is a bone between the lumbar vertebrae
and tail vertebrae, composed of five fused vertebrae that form the
posterior pelvic wall.)

Full membership of The Craniosacral Therapy Association is open to anyone who has successfully completed courses in Craniosacral Therapy with CCST, CTET
or the Karuna Institute.
The Upledger Institute (UI)
The Upledger Institute (UI) was founded in 1985 by
osteopathic physician and surgeon John E. Upledger to
support the work of CranioSacral Therapy (CST), a
gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the
function of the craniosacral system (the membranes and
cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain
and spinal cord).
Vibrational Healing / Gems & Stones
Craniosacral therapy is the art of assessing and responding to the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid which bathes the brain and spinal cord. Assesments are taken at
listening stations throughout the cranium and body.
