PHADE (Pneumatic HeartMate Assist as Destination Evaluation) is a non-randomized, single center, clinical research study to evaluate the safety of a permanent heart assist device - the HeartMate Implanted Pneumatic Left Ventricular Assist Device (HeartMate IP LVAD) and the HeartPak portable driver in patients with end-stage heart disease. The study candidates are fifty patients with end-stage heart disease with a poor prognosis after optimum medical management and not considered for cardiac transplant in the USA. Patients from other countries are welcome
