THE HUGHES INSTITUTE was founded in 1995 with the goal of developing novel therapeutics to eradicate cancer, AIDS and diseases of the immune system. To this end, members of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and physicians are working together to develop new technologies which can be translated into effective treatments for people suffering from these deadly diseases. The Institute is directed by Dr. Fatih M. Uckun, former professor of Pediatrics, Therapeutic Radiology, Pharmacology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Minnesota.
